Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code (CWRC): Substantial exterior renovations on homes in qualifying fire-intensity zones now require non-combustible siding, not just a recommendation.

Colorado Foothills

Is Your Home In A
Qualifying Zone?

The code applies specifically to Moderate and High Fire Intensity zones in the foothills west of Denver. Right now, we're focused on homeowners in:

Goldenincl. Lookout Mountain
GeneseeI-70 mountain corridor
EvergreenFoothills / Hwy 73 area
ConiferHwy 285 corridor
Boulderwestern & foothills-adjacent
Illustrative map of Colorado foothills communities including Boulder, Golden, Genesee, Evergreen, and Conifer

Not every home in these areas is required to act. Zone requirements vary block by block, and some homes outside these areas may still benefit from fire-resistant siding even where it isn't required. We'll confirm your home's exact status before you spend a dollar, and there's no cost or obligation to find out.

Why Homeowners Are Acting Now

Why Foothills Homeowners Are
Replacing Their Siding Now

Fire Code Compliance

Non-combustible material is required by code in qualifying zones, not optional once triggered.

30-Year Warranty

James Hardie backs the substrate for 30 years and the factory-backed finish for 15, no repainting required.

Built For Colorado Weather

Resists hail, freeze-thaw cycling and the swings between a 70° afternoon and an overnight snow.

Stops Pest & Impact Damage

Foothills homes see more woodpecker and hail damage than most. Fiber cement holds up to both.

A Smarter, Safer Home

Why We Recommend
James Hardie Fiber
Cement

It's the most cost-effective way to meet the new code: fully non-combustible, Class A fire rated, and it doesn't add fuel to a fire the way treated wood or vinyl assemblies can.

Questions? We've Got Answers.

Everything You Need to Know About Siding and the New Fire Code

Clear answers to the most common questions from Colorado foothills homeowners.
Still have a question? We’re here to help.

Do I have to replace my siding now because of the new code?
Usually not. The code sets the rules for new homes, additions and large remodels. If your siding is in good shape and you aren’t planning a big project, the code alone may not require a change. Your local building department makes the final call.
How much does new siding cost?
It depends on the size of your home, the style and colors you pick, and whether soffit, fascia and gutters are included. Because we measure every home precisely, your price is based on your actual house, usually in the first visit.
How long does the install take?
Most homes take one to three weeks, depending on size. You get a timeline for your project before any work begins.
Can I do the project in phases?
Yes. Many owners do the siding first and the soffit, fascia and gutters later. The siding itself is usually done on the whole house at once, because the Hardie system needs to be fully installed for the warranty.
Will fiber cement lower my insurance?
We can’t promise a discount. Many owners in fire-prone areas choose fire-resistant siding to help protect the coverage they already have. Every policy is different, so ask your insurance agent.
My home is older. Is that a problem?
Not at all, but we check the wall under the siding. Some homes built before the 1970s need new sheathing to hold fiber cement. With the wall open, it’s also the easiest time to update insulation.
What if my home isn’t in a fire zone?
You’re still welcome to reach out. Many owners choose James Hardie for the low upkeep, the long warranties and how well it handles hail and Colorado sun.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, financing is available for qualified buyers. Ask about current plans when you book your assessment.
